Sailfish, Marlin and Dorado Greet Anglers for Opening Week
Sailfish show up early to greet anglers during opening week
Sailfish, Dorado, Marlin, and Tuna give guests steady action for the season opener
If you like billfish and lots of offshore fishing action, Southern Costa Rica was the place to be as the fishing gods served up lots of offshore variety to kick off the 2023-24 season at TZL.
Sailfish, dorado, striped and blue marlin were the main attraction, although we’ve been catching just about everything that swims including feisty yellowfin tunas.
Two anglers got to ring the bell for their first sailfish and first striped marlin and another angler got to test his strength against a 165lb yellowfin tuna.
One visiting angler had this to say about his trip after he caught his bucket list roosterfish.
“What an adventure. Dorado and yellowfin tuna for days, raising sails, marlins, and capping the trip off with a bucket list rooster. THE Zancudo Lodge is a must for anyone who wants to experience the best fishing in the world and 5* service” -bderek
Another angler rang the bell for her first 50lb #Roosterfish that she can now cross off the bucket list for good.
Congratulations to Sue and Steve who tied the knot on the beach with a sunset over the blue waters of the Golfo Dulce serving as the ultimate backdrop for this very special event!
We currently have a full house here enjoying a once in a lifetime dorado bite with lots of bulls coming up and several being released.
Sailfish don’t usually show up in big numbers until later in January, but they decided to come out in full force just to give anglers lots to talk about at our newly renovated bar at the Gamefisher Restaurant.
For this years visiting anglers, The Zancudo Lodge has made several new renovations to the already “over the top” Costa Rica fishing lodge and resort experience.
This year the private dock featuring our fleet of custom 33′ and 44’ Contenders has received a makeover to improve the comfort of our guests and add just an overall better design. The dock faces a tropical lagoon off the river Coto and is smack dab in the middle of one of the most biologically intense regions of the world. White face monkeys, hundreds of exotic bird species, reptiles, and of course, some BIG crocs waiting for a chunk of sashimi grade tuna can all be seen as the sun rises before the day’s angling action kicks off.
The Zancudo Lodge has also renovated the bar at the ocean-front Gamefisher Restaurant with some awesome new design features that are going to make sunsets over Costa Rica’s Sweet Gulf (Golfo Dulce) even sweeter. And for the best part, we’ve freshened up our menu so if you’ve visited before, get ready for an even better culinary experience.
If you keep up with our blogs there is no doubt you have seen our new decked out 44’ Contender with triple Yamaha 425’s that arrived toward the end of last season. This is the pride of our fleet and we can’t wait for you and your group of friends, family or team to fish on “the ultimate fishing boat”.
Our A-Team crew headed by veteran anglers Cholo, Tito and Javier rejoined our crew and of course we keep LOTS of staff on hand around the resort to make sure our anglers get the best in personalized attention during their stay.
If you’re interested in booking the new Contender sign up quick as space is extremely limited. This boat was designed for the most discerning anglers who want nothing but the best!
If you have not reserved your trip yet, please inquire about availability here. We are already taking reservations for 2025, but do have space for individuals groups throughout the year.
