Opening Week Sees Tuna, Dorado, Marlin and the Unicorn of the Pacific

Record breaking Opening week full of big fish, happy anglers and… a tarpon?

Anglers experienced a sensational bite and even a tarpon to kick off the new season

THIS opening week has been RECORD BREAKING here at The Zancudo Lodge in Costa Rica. The fishing gods have blessed our weather with calm sunny days which opened the gates to a flooded WIDE-OPEN tuna bite.

Watch this quick video of the action beneath the surface during a wide open bite!

Inshore, the action has been super steady and extremely productive with giant roosters, cubera snappers and the unicorn TARPON of the Costa Rica Pacific (where we’ve seen only 3 caught since 2005)!

Offshore action has simply been phenomenal with big tunas (50lbs – 140lbs) feeding under massive schools of bait fish, dorados in the 50lb range and averaging 1-2 blue marlin and sailfish per day.

Just 2 days ago, our returning client hooked a 140lb tuna on spinning gear. He was nearly spooled with his line getting down to the knot several times…… but after a 3 hour battle…SUCCESS!
