The opening few days at The Zancudo Lodge in Costa Rica did not disappoint. Big tuna and lots of marlin greeted anglers in the first week of action at the lodge. Highlights included big tuna to 262lbs and lots of blue marlin. Read the opening week fishing report including photos of the past few days.
On his second trip to the The Zancudo Lodge this season, Will Miller, one of the Lodge’s favorite clients and a great personal friend and his fishing partner W. Harris, experienced what most aspire to. While trolling two Islander lures through the middle of a tuna school, a massive wall of water pressed downward and then up exploded a massive Marlin
After an hour of this frenzy, we decided to hunt for tuna and again, the amazing Simrad Yachting open ray radar picked up a huge flock of birds with a massive school of tuna and porpoises feeding under them.
More than ever, our guests are all very excited about getting back on our amazing seas for another great fishing adventure.
The amazing tuna bite continues ever since the Costa Rican fishing community has gotten serious regarding the protection of its own natural resources.
Today we headed out 40+ miles offshore for some blue marlin action. We were greeted by flat calm ocean and perfect weather. The blue marlin are still biting out there, and we ended the day 1-2 and raised 5 that did not bite. Thanks to the Zancudo crew, it was an unbelievable day of Costa Rica fishing here at the lodge.
It was a long run 50 miles out and we finally spotted a flock of birds 5 mile out on on our Simrad Yachting HD radar. Feeding under the birds were spotted porpoises with some nice grade tuna mixed in. We ended the day with 12 fish. Some in the 75lb-85lb grade.
Things are looking a little better so hang in there everyone! It’s all right around the corner! So come make some memories with us! Here’s some available dates for next season.
We unfortunately closed the Lodge early this year and although all our minds are still on this global virus, we have to keep believing that this will run its course and life will get better.
The greatest part of this job is when a client reports that “the fishing was amazing and this was my BEST day ever”. This week we had a few of those moments.
