WHAT IS “A PRE-DAY CHECK IN” FOR THE ULTIMATE FISHING PACKAGE?
Quite often, guests arrive in San Jose prior to noon the day before their first day of fishing. Since the last flight from San Jose to Golfito departs at 4pm, guests can choose to make this same day transfer to the Lodge. Pending space availability, guests have the option to make a same day connection and arrive at the Lodge one day prior to the actual start of their trip, hence the “PRE-DAY check in”. Alternatively, when the Lodge is full, guests may request to be accommodated in the Golfito marina hotel. Additional charges for this PRE-DAY check in are rated pending the guests’ arrival time at the Lodge.
WHAT IS THE NORMAL FISHING DAY SCHEDULE?
Your fishing day starts with breakfast at 5:30am and your dock call is at 6am. Your lunch will be packed for you on the boat. You will return to the Lodge around 3:30pm–4:00pm at which time you will enjoy leisure time either resting, swimming in our salt water pool, telling fish stories, strolling on the beach, taking a dip in our 80 degree ocean, enjoying drinks and bocas at the bar, napping, etc. Dinner is normally served between 6:00–6:30pm.
IS THERE NONFISHING COMPANION PRICING?
Yes, quite often a nonfisher will choose to accompany their friend or mate on a fishing trip to our Lodge. For nonfishing companions, the rate is comprised of a domestic transfer fee and a daily all inclusive rate. Please check with your reservations agent on seasonal pricing.
WHAT'S THERE TO DO BESIDES FISHING?
There are many tours and excursions offered at the Lodge. Depending on guests’ personal interests, there are beautiful rainforest hikes, treks to nearby National Parks, thrilling zipline rides through the rainforest, horseback riding on the beach, rappelling down waterfalls, or relaxing by our saltwater pool or walking our quiet Zancudo Beach. The Lodge also has standup paddle boards, bicycles, fishing kayaks, etc. for rent. Whether you are a nature person or not, you won’t get bored and will undoubtedly fall in love with the safety of this off the beaten path town of Zancudo and its natives.
WHAT IS THE WEIGHT LIMIT ON SANSA, THE DOMESTIC CARRIER?
Sansa stipulates a 30lb (13.61kg) baggage weight limit which includes one carry on and one checked luggage per passenger. They may carry excess weight at an additional USD $1.50 per pound based on weight, measure, and availability. Because Sansa is cautious with aircraft weight and balance, there may be rare luggage holdoffs, however your piece(s) will be flown on the next available flight. We highly suggest that if you are coming on the early Sansa flight for your first fishing day, you arrive fully attired or carry on what you need for that day to prevent delays.

SHOULD WE BRING US DOLLARS OR COLONES (LOCAL CURRENCY)? CAN WE CHARGE OUR PURCHASES?
All major credit cards are accepted. Guests may also use cash for purchases and gratuities. There are no banks or ATMs in Zancudo, so cash is difficult to obtain locally. We strongly suggest calling your credit card company prior to travel to notify them of international use. US dollars and Costa Rican colones are both accepted.
WHAT ARE THE SUGGESTED GRATUITIES FOR THE STAFF?
For Bar, Restaurant, Housekeeping, Dock Services, Guest Services and Landscape staff, we recommend a consolidated tip minimum of USD $75.00 per guest per night. This can be given to the manager on duty at the end of your stay. We suggest bringing cash.
WHAT ARE THE SUGGESTED GRATUITIES FOR YOUR FISHING CAPTAIN?
The average for our captains starts from usd 300.00 and up for each captain per day.
This is normally given directly to the captains after each fishing day or at the end of your trip. Gratuities are earned and very much appreciated by our staff. We suggest bringing cash for all gratuities.

The balance is due 60 days prior to the trip start date. Payments are nonrefundable and nontransferable within 60 days of the trip start date. We strongly suggest trip insurance.
CAN WE BRING OUR FRESH CATCH BACK HOME?
Unfortunately no. Sansa domestic flights are small 12 seater aircraft with strict 30lb luggage limits. Refrigerated transport from our area is scarce. Additionally, we are a catch and release Lodge and proudly support conservation efforts. We only bring back enough fish for guests to enjoy at the Lodge.
