Offshore has seen a better than usual showing for marlin this time of year with several blacks making an appearance, some tipping the scales at close to 500lbs. Blacks normally show up in larger numbers in the summer months, so this was a pleasant surprise. The lady in the blue dress aka blue marlin has also had a good showing in March with individuals averaging 200-300lbs.

Marlin continue to be the surprise this year as they seem to have forgotten to thin out for the sailfish this season with most anglers getting multiple shots at them. Last week we had five marlin releases in a single day, as well as lots of adrenaline pumping sailfish action. The Lewis family went into full “Bucket List” mode when a 500lb black …
The big fish just keep on coming. Today every boat caught a blue marlin with a total of 19 over the past three days. Tons of monster dorado are keeping both the blue marlin and anglers happy. The tuna action remains consistent for those wishing to target them and we’re starting to see the sailfish action pick up. Sailfish numbers will only increase as the season progresses. Today’s highlight was this giant bull dorado (pictured). The captains are getting some good practice in for the annual Triple Crown fishing tournament which kicks off soon.
The opening few days at The Zancudo Lodge in Costa Rica did not disappoint. Big tuna and lots of marlin greeted anglers in the first week of action at the lodge. Highlights included big tuna to 262lbs and lots of blue marlin. Read the opening week fishing report including photos of the past few days.
Anyone have a box of tissues for Maikol Barrantes Tito and Juan are laughing. The end game was near on a nice tuna but when he though it was over the tuna made another run.
The tuna bite is still fantastic Kipp Felice his dad and brother in law hooked a few 100lb+ers but mostly their fish were in the 60lb class. The Black Hawk from New York and his son fought a big tuna for over 2 hours on an Okuma Makaria 10 landing the fish it weighted 120lb. The sailfish bite is also steady her in the southern zone of Costa Rica.
Putting clients on the fish is our goal We found a tuna FAD floating yesterday. Our captain put a Sat tracker on it. So today the crew are on the fish again. Big dorado and a big school of tuna from yesterday.

The LODGE’s boats are STILL catching dorado and the inshore action has been steady with an abundance of Roosters and Cubera Snappers being released daily. The Marlin bite out at the sea mounts is a little on the slow side after a record setting December. BUT the tuna action continues…
