The Zancudo Lodge Fishing Report January 2026
We are right in the middle of our best year ever here at the Zancudo Lodge in Costa Rica. It’s our 20th year of ownership!
We have many returning guests, and the excitement of our new Contender boat and lodge upgrades is blowing clients’ minds. We want to be the best we can be, making the lodge a world-class destination. Fishing in the Southern Zone of Costa Rica has been very good, with a small La Niña effect in our weather pattern.
The dorado run is lackluster again, but our marlin season is off to a fantastic start, and with the cooler water, we expect the blue marlin bite to remain steady throughout the season.
The yellowfin tuna bite has been simply insane. I have not seen a fish smaller than 85 lb hit our dock in the past month. If you want a big tuna, this is the year—most fish are in the 120 lb–160 lb class.
Tarpon have been schooling here over the past few years. So far, we have caught 7, all over 100 lb, which is a nice surprise when fishing inshore for roosters.
