THE TOP SPECIES TO TARGET

At The Zancudo Lodge, every day brings the chance to land a trophy. Offshore, the stars of the show are blue, black, and striped marlin along with acrobatic sailfish. Dorado and yellowfin tuna add to the excitement, while wahoo (not extremely common but can surprise anglers any day of the year) test the reflexes of even the most seasoned anglers.

Inshore, the adventure continues with roosterfish, African pompano, giant jacks, grouper, Cubera snapper, and trevally among the many species to pursue. This remarkable variety ensures that no two days of fishing are ever the same.

BEST SEASONS AND WEATHER

The prime Bluewater fishing season runs December through April, when seas are calm, skies are clear, and the billfish bite is red hot. While the lodge closes for maintenance from mid June to November, we continue to offer the best custom Contender charters in the area for marlin, dorado, yellowfin tuna, and other exciting species during those months.

SUSTAINABILITY AND CONSERVATION

As a proud supporter of conservation initiatives, we practice and promote catch-and-release for billfish and other species vital to the marine ecosystem. This ensures the waters of Southern Costa Rica remain healthy and abundant for future generations of anglers. We release Cubera snappers and roosterfish inshore and encourage anglers to release large resident reef fish. All billfish, roosterfish, and tarpon (caught occasionally as they find their way through the Panama Canal and have established small breeding populations here.) are relase only fish BY LAW in Costa Rica. We use circle hooks on all live and dead bait and have sustainable hooks used on lures to minimize impact. We do not allow clients to remove billfish from the water for photos as it causes harm to their internal organs and removes protective slime. Our captains can help you get amazing photos without removing the fish from the water.
