Whether you are staying with us at the lodge or choose to charter one of our fishing boats for the day, prepare yourself for the ultimate sport fishing experience. Our fleet of 32′ Contenders (and New Contender 44′ with triple Yamaha 425’s)  are equipped with dual Yahmaha 300HPs and Simrad High Definition Radar that can find the fish up to 5 miles out! 

All Contenders are equipped with live bait wells and tuna tubes as well as Rockford Fosgate Audio systems that can sync to your playlists. Of course all boats also feature top of the line gear with Okuma Rods and Reels, BKK hooks and a great selection of artificial lures and teasers. Your fishing vacation is important so we make sure you have the best gear and fastest boats to maximize your ability to catch your target species during your time with us.

Introducing the NEW Contender 44' Z1

Just when you thought the sport fishing operation at The Zancudo Lodge couldn’t get any better, owner Gregg Mufson adds a fully loaded Contender 44’ Z1 to our already elite fleet of high-end custom Contender boats.

When it comes to fishing in Costa Rica, you can’t control everything, but you can control what kind of boat you go out on as well as your captain, crew and gear. Our new Contender 44’ boasts a literal dream configuration featuring spacious casting areas, tuna tubes, tower to monitor the spread, comfortable seating and storage areas as well as all new state of the art Simrad radar….and of course the icing on the cake: Triple Yamaha v8 425’s to get you to the bite faster. 

The new Contender also features SeaKeeper which stabilizes the boat so anglers can enjoy their fishing adventure to the fullest. Anglers can also sync their phone playlist to our top-of-the-line Rockford Fosgate audio system. Personal Best Tuna

I had the opportunity to visit the Zancudo in Golfito Costa Rica last week. I was lucky enough to catch this PB yellowfin tuna casting a stick bait. (the medium green sardine Mackstick.) The drag on the reel went in and out on me so it took quite a bit longer to land this baby than anticipated.Definitely an early Christmas present for me as this my biggest yellowfin tuna and on a lures which makes it even better. Not sure how heavy it is but it’s heavy enough to take 25 min to land on 60lb test spinning gear with a busted drag.Have a great Christmas and new year everyone!
