We will be more than happy to customize a fishing adventure package to suit any angler's desire, from inshore to offshore to fishing the river banks. For offshore fishing, you can expect to catch marlin, sailfish, tuna and dorado ... and inshore there is roosterfish, snappers, Bluefin, Trevally, Crevalle Jack, Corvina, Amber Jack, Triple Tail, Rainbow Runner, Grouper, Sierra Mackerel, Barracuda, Permit and Pompano. In addition, fishermen will have the ability to select their tackle of choice, from ultra light to fly. Our captains are well known for their persistent and competitive nature and are all trained to ensure that our guests experience the ultimate fishing adventure during their stay with us.
ROOSTER FISH: Always available and common sizes range from 20-70 pounds.
MARLIN: All Marlin species are caught year round. The peak time for Blue Marlin is November and December, March and April while the Black Marlin peak is during July and August.
DORADO (Mahi Mahi) : Year round species with seasonal highs during November to April.
SAILFISH: Common year round but peaking from November to May. It is not unusual to catch more than 20 Sails in any given day.
SNAPPER: There are over a dozen types of snappers ranging between 15 to 100 pounds
TUNA: Large yellowfin, in the 200-300lb range are often found feeding under the large schools or porpoises. Schoolie sized Yellowfin are available year round. Bigeye, considered the bruisers in the tuna family, are common in our area. Hooking a large bigeye will lead you on an epic multi-hour fight.
Whether you are an experienced or a novice fly fisherman, our skilled captains at the Zancudo Lodge will add another dimension to your fly fishing world. On the fly, our guests will have the opportunity for billfish, dorado, tuna or roosters. Our blue marlin range in the 175lb-250lb class which is the perfect fly fishing size. With reputable TFO Temple Fork Outfitters as our corporate fly fishing sponsor, our fly fishermen will have a wide range of 5 star equipment to select from for their deep sea quest.
FLY FISHING AT THE ZANCUDO LODGE
The following information is The Zancudo Lodge's recommended fly gear for fly-fishing.
RODS -12-12/13 weight rod, 9 foot, best for traveling is a 3 or 4 piece rod.
REELS -12, 12/13 reel with a large arbor.
To put more fight to a sailfish or marlin:

-14, 14/15, 15 weight rod 8'6''
REELS -13, 13/14 or 15 large arbor reel.
Fly Line: Billfish floating fly line for popper flies. Sinking tip or intermediate line for those using streamer flies. Backing line-50-65 braided line Leader material: 60-80 pound mono for the butt section.
Class tippet, Mason 20 lb. Shock tippet, 80-100 mono.
Hooks: Tiempco 6/0, 7/0, 8/0.
Tandem material –wire, not stainless.
Flies: Billfish popper flies will be available at the lodge-rigged and ready!
For Inshore Fly Fishing: (Roosterfish, Jacks, Bonitos, Snappers, yellowfin tuna) Rod -9-10 weight rod and reelsFly line- 10 weight floating for popper flies 10 weight intermediate or sinking tippet for streamers, feathers or anything that needs to get down in the water. Leader- Butt section 30-40 lb. mono Tippet 20 and under. Shock tippet-30-50 lb. mono
Inshore Flies: Any fly that imitates sardines and minnows Lots of flash and hair. Poppers with feathers Pretty much anything goes!
